Karel Gott + Arnošt Lustig -
When two guys are talking: Lustig writes about Gott – The famous writer Arnošt Lustig (1926) works on a book about Karel Gott (1939) – the book will not be his biography but rather a view into the singer’s world of ideas, into his reflections on history, life, or art. “Even though Arnošt Lustig may seem to come from a different background I do enjoy our talks. I would especially like to utilize Lustig’s sense of humor that can inspire the text with lightness,“ said Karel Gott. He promises his readers that they will find in this new book different information than that presented in newspapers or magazine interviews. However, he emphasizes ahead of time that he will strictly avoid questions about his privacy. Why did Lustig choose Gott, a symbol of popularity and lasting success, as his new book’s topic? “At the beginning, there was a true coincidence, a joke about what can come out of two guys’ talking about philosophy. The view of a writer is confronted with the view of a singer who entertains millions of people,“ Lustig reveals circumstances of the book’s very beginning. “As a young man I worked as a reporter and I learned about various views of the world from various people ranging from workers to divers, to name at least some. Gott is a prominent personality, yet a person of humble origin who became a knight and later even a king. The king of the Czech popular song. Anyway, this was a good lesson for me,“ says Lustig. “I found out that Gott is an interesting man who can talk not only about music but also, amongst others, about history of which he has a pronounced opinion,“ adds Lustig. As an example he speaks about Gott’s concept of the world that has been erected on the pillars of common conspiracy with all historic landmarks having always been a result of previous arrangements. Lustig is going to complement Gott’s deliberations with his own ‘postscripts’ dealing with Art and Business or Art and Politics. A book release date has not been set yet. According to Lustig, this is not going to be a thick book but a fresh title of some eighty pages.
