You can score a success with Karel Gott even in London! The editor of www.karelgott.com experienced this first hand when he and the lyric writer Michael Prostìjovský met a true legend in London – the world famous lyricist and musical writer DON BLACK, the owner of an Oscar a song about the lioness Elsa composed for the movie Born Free. Adam and Prostìjovský met Don Black to have an interview for a book entitled Muzikály Andrewa Lloyda Webbera (Andrew Lloyd Webber’s Musicals) that they are working on and that is going to be published in the fall of 2005 by the Naše vojsko publishing house. They knew that Black and Andrew Lloyd Webber were co-authors of the musicals Tell Me On A Sunday, Aspects Of Love and Sunset Boulevard, that the musical Dracula composed by Black and Wildhorn is currently on at Broadway, and that Don Black wrote lyrics for the hits of Michael Jackson, Tom Jones, Shirley Bassey as well as for the songs from the movies Dances With Wolves, The Pink Panther Strikes Again or Out Of Africa. Adam and Prostìjovský presented Don Black with the recording of Karel Gott’s Czech and German versions of the song Love Changes Everything from Lloyd Webber and Black’s musical Aspects Of Love. And what was Don Black’s reaction like? Absolutely surprising! Don Black told Adam and Prostìjovský: Karel Gott and I met in 1968 here in London when Karel took part in the Eurovision Grand Prix at the Royal Albert Hall. I thought he was going to be a clear winner. Yet he was last but one. Anyway, his voice is unforgettable to me". While at a hotel bar, Don Black had Gott’s hit Jako James Bond played. Not by chance. Don Black wrote lyrics for five great songs from the James Bond series. No surprise he wanted to hear how Karel Gott handled the first world song ever about the agent 007. Black even asked for the translation of the Czech text and expressed his wish to go back to Prague, which he visited during an incognito trip. He would like to see Prague this year and as he says a meeting with Karel Gott would be a real pleasure. We will keep you posted.
